Stuck in a Rut, But Having A Good Time...

Just got back from a week visiting my sister up north. Had a great time visiting with some friends and also managed to squeeze in a few side trips "I'll only be 10 minutes, I swear!" to some cool yarn stores.

Project wise, I'm STILL working on my first sweater and realized the other night while I was sleeping (sleeping is when I download and process stuff) I made some bad mistakes that I'll need to rip out. sigh.

Job wise, not much. But I did schedule a Salvation Army pick up of some furniture that's been languishing in my garage for some 2+ years.

I did finish a few little projects:some voodoo wrist warmers

2 little bowls

And I knitted up a cat.

Actually, that's Casey, ruler of my sister's apartment complex.

My personal theme song of the week is: U2's "Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of"

Weaselrina is my soul sister..

..'cuz she's done guessed my lie AGAIN!!

True: The first time I ever attended a Knitting Group, my photo ended up in the local paper.

Two weeks ago I found a knitting group that meets in my home town so I showed up to check it out. A reporter and photographer from a small local paper were there that night to interview one of the long attending members. The article was about knitting groups and the surge in popularity with knitting—and I, a member of 20 whole minutes, got the biggest photo! Note to self: next time wash your hair and wear some make up.

False: An avid hiker, my biggest achievement so far was climbing Mt. Rainer in Washington state last year.

I was at Mt. Rainer last summer—but in a car and no where near the top.

Before assuming a career in advanced couch potato, I did like to hike but the highest I ever made it was Half Dome in Yosemite.

True: I’m fluent in American Sign Language

Well, this is somewhat fibby in that my skills are rusty but I did become quiet fluent in ASL and even did some volunteer work with deaf high school students.

True: In high school I took Drivers Ed with the owner of our new LYS and was the worst driver

As Suzanne, co-owner of our LYS, says, it was always fun when it was my turn to drive because you never knew what was going to happen.

True: Feeling guilty, I once climbed back halfway up a rock in Arizona to return an arrowhead to a former Native American home site.

Even though I was not on federally or state protected land when I found the arrowhead, I felt that it belonged back at the original site and not to me so I climbed back up and put it back.

Third Time...not so charming

This gets harder and harder so, from now on, I'm going to play from the sidelines!

Once again Weaselrina has me figured out!

Lie: I have over 300 figurines in my Hummel collection
Although I love collecting things, and have been accused of hoarding mass quantities of German christmas ornaments in my garage, there are no Hummels in my house

Truth: I once became so addicted to QVC that I know all the hosts by name. And oh so very very sad indeed but hey, where else can you buy a Karcher power washer on sale at 3AM from the comfort of your own bed in 15 seconds flat.

Truth: I have never seen an episode of the Simpsons. How I missed out on this cultural phenomenon is beyond me. Maybe the timeslot conflicted with Pimp My Ride.

Truth: My sister worked at a Sanrio store and was forced to dress up as Hello Kitty –One year they had a store promo and my sister was the only one short enough and small enough to fit inside the kitty costume. She reported that it was hot and stuffy inside the big cat head and for months afterwards, she had to sit with her feet straight out and her head turned sideways.

Truth: I serve on the volunteer committee at a woman’s shelter – this is true. After I was laid off (is there a cloud of doom over my head???) 2 years ago, I felt that I could use some of my free time toward helping others and put my personal situation in perspective by volunteering at the nearby woman’s shelter. Except that, every time there was a volunteer “job” opportunity, I’d get a job interview! I hope the good karma continues now that I’m back in the job market again. There are some amazing and powerful women out there who work very hard to overcome tremendous obstacles and, often addictions, to put their lives and children’s lives back on track.

Last night, Mika wound some yarn for me. It's going to become the loopy scarf from Knitty.

Four More Truths and a Lie!

I never knew how dull my life really is until I had to think of truths for this little game!!

1. I have over 300 figurines in my Hummel collection
2. I once became so addicted to QVC that I know all the hosts by name
3. I have never seen an episode of the Simpsons
4. My sister worked at a Sanrio store and was forced to dress up as Hello Kitty
5. I serve on the volunteer committee at a woman’s shelter

Ok, which one is a fib?

Lie uncovered!

The Weaselrina--has uncovered the lie! Let's see what truths she can weasel her way out of!

1. I once lived in a home featured on a historical homes tour - I lived, as a renter, for a year in Rudy Vallee's old house in Felton, CA. He was a singer from the 20's famous for being a "crooner" (think Bing Crosby. Alas, one year we had torrential rain and the home almost slid down the hill so the owner moved back in to deal with the mess and I moved to Scott's Valley.

2. I've played a bellhop in a car commercial - in Japan, I played a carhop for a Suzuki car commercial. My "acting" was to look shocked at how all these tall models could fit in such a tiny car.

3. I had a home video about my cat, Cary, shown on America's Funniest Home Videos- This is a lie, while I AM a crazy cat lady, I don't have any television worthy footage (yet) of the little furball.

4. After being injured while training for a Marathon, I was treated by Barry Bonds orthopedic surgeon - I did Team in Training one year and got injured doing a half marathon. One of my fellow slow as a turtle runners, lived next door to a Stanford physician and got me an appt. with this doctor. The injury ended my short-lived running career.

5. I was set up on a blind lunch date with a local TV sportscaster - yes, it was a awkward lunch that I think we both agreed to just so we could shut the matchmaker up.
