Flash Your Stash 2008
As with many other things Chez Cpurl, I just couldn't get it together this year but I did use the day to reflect on my very first Stash post in 2006.
Sad to say, 90% of this yarn is still in my house. A lot of it was purchased under the newbie- knitter-not- sure- what- I'm- doing- cloud. Ever sadder to say, this stash was amassed before I learned how to knit socks. Or lace. Or before Malabrigo. Or the 2 more trips to Stitches. So it's grown a little since then. Enough that my Dad wanted me to watch the Oprah episode on Hoarders.
It's kind of a cute stash actually. So young and innocent.
But I think it's time to let these young'uns go out into the world and find a new home. In other words, I should get myself organized for a De-stash!!

Screw the destash - I say wind it all into a big giant ball like the top pic! :D
In fact, I *dare* you...
Hehehe...love weezalana's comment!
I of course say, Destash! That's some nice stuff there, but if it isn't calling your name.... Think of it as trading up for some stuff you like!
A hoarder's episode on Oprah?! Oh no. If it gets that bad, don't worry, I'm local...we can help each other out :)
Ok, that's really cute that your dad wanted you to watch that episode! Hm, if you did what Weeze suggested, you could call it "art" and charge us all to look at it--earn yourself enough to buy a new stash! ;-)
I'm a de-stash enabler (ask Carrie). I say DESTASH. You do NOT want to end up like the Oprah hoarder. I saw it - NOT pretty.
Like Carrie said - destash and buy yarn you DO like with that $
Good luck :-)
sand colored is worsted weight and 100% wool, I could use it to make helmet liners for this project:

Or you could! But if you don't want to, can I have dibs?
Whoops! My "If that" fell off.
Wow, that is an interesting 1st picture! Hehe..our first stashes..I'm so not showing my current one! ;)
But your stash at least looks so neat and organized... mine on the other hand does look a lot like the big ball of tangles stuff.
I couldn't get it together to flash this year either.
I've gotten rid of a lot of that yarn I bought in the early days of my knitting career. It felt so good to replace it with stuff I really like. Now it's getting harder to destash.
You made me realize that I forgot to post a "challenge" on my blog for FYS2008. I may have to break my "no blogging at work" rule to go post that.
Go for a destash. I did recently (spent the cash on fibre but never mind!!) and it is liberating.
What today is flash your stash day? Oh my I must have missed the memo on that:)
Nice Stash:) Hmmm maybe I can work something through Flickr:)
We could have a cpurl cee purl stash sleeping party where you spread all your stash across the floor and go diving LOL
Can you tell I need sleep?
*hugs to ya girlie*

I forgot about flashing my stash! oh well, it is small and scrapy anyway! I love the photo of the giant ball...
I watched part of that episode and decided I wasn't hoarding, I love my yarn, it's useful, I actually touch and enjoy it. I do want to reduce the amount, though...
Destashing isn't a bad idea. Newbie knitter purchases make up a huge portion of a lot of people's stashes, I think. Pick out what you like and swap/sell/give away the rest. I think it'll make for a more usable stash.
Embrace the stash.
And then as Batty says, look through it knowing what you know today and swap/sell/gift/donate the stuff that no longer sings to you.
Having de-stashed a couple of times (like you I made a few mistakes as a newbie knitter!), I can attest to the fact that it really is liberating, so I say go for it!
